Brinkman takes on the leadership position at the development studio following the departure of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's disappointing initial reveal last fall.

On Wednesday, 2K president a key figure notified employees about this strategic move through an official communication, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had revealed the requirement for a more defined vision.

The president stated that the team is now reimagining the project with a refreshed vision, aiming to satisfy gamer demands.

This announcement echoes a similar action taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they recruited Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to work on the beloved franchise development group.

The community feedback from last autumn’s Project ETHOS playtest was informative. It validated the promise of a action-packed game but told us we still had improvements to make. It revealed the requirement for a clearer brand.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve progressed. You took the feedback to heart and reimagined Project ETHOS with a revitalized goal - one that’s positioned to fulfill its ambition to our audience.

Our confidence in this project strengthens every day. To further the incredible progress you’ve made, I am thrilled to announce the new hire as the new Director of the team. After a period of discussions, he comes aboard us on Monday, October 20.

Ben’s guidance and background in the competitive gaming genre is considerable, having spent the recent years producing and managing some of the most popular titles in the industry, such as the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, Apex Legends.

The appointee currently serves in the role of senior developer and production lead at the renowned studio for Apex Legends. He earlier was employed at Treyarch and Activision in multiple development positions on the Call of Duty games, and, before that, had periods at other industry leaders.

Project Ethos was announced in October 2024 together with a public demo. At the time, the developers described the game as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an thrilling evolution on the style."
